1.0 Purpose
This document is meant to provide a higher level overview into what has changed with the objective update for LPIC-304 from version 1.0 to 2.0.
2.0 Changes in LPIC-304
The major changes in the LPIC-304 exam are:
- more emphasis on Virtualization over HA topics
- libvirt and virsh
- some coverage of OpenStack
- update to HA technology versions
2.1 Content and Weighting Changes
NOTE: The balance of Virtualization and High Availability coverage has shifted from 50% and 50%, respectively, to 60% Virtualization and 40% High Availability.
304 Change Summary
Objective 330.2: Xen
The weighting of this objective has been reduced from 10 to 9 to reflect a balancing of content with KVM.
The version of Xen covered is now 4.x.
The xm tool chain has been reduced to the awareness level.
The xl and xe tool chain has been added.
Objective 330.3: KVM
The weighting of this objective has been increased from 7 to 9 to reflect a balancing of content with Xen.
Key terms kvm-qemu and kvm_stat have been dropped.
Key terms qemu-img and kvm-admin have been added.
Objective 330.4: Other Virtualization Solutions
Linux Containers (LXC) has been added at the awareness level.
Objective 330.5: Libvirt and Related Tools
This is a new objective and the weighting of this objective has been set at 5.
The objective includes use of virsh, awareness of oVirt and basic technical knowledge of the libvirt library.
Objective 330.6: Cloud Management Tools
This is a new objective and the weighting of this objective has been set at 2.
The objective covers basic feature knowledge of OpenStack and CloudStack.
Objective 331.1: Linux Virtual Server
The weighting of this objective has been reduced from 5 to 3 to allow for more coverage of Virtualization topics.
Objective 331.3: LinuxPMI
This objective has been dropped.
Objective 332.1: Pacemaker
The weighting of this objective has been reduced from 5 to 3 to allow for more coverage of Virtualization topics.
Objective 332.2: Advanced Pacemaker
The weighting of this objective has been reduced from 3 to 2 to allow for more coverage of Virtualization topics.
Objective 332.4: Advanced Red Hat Cluster Suite
The weighting of this objective has been reduced from 3 to 2 to allow for more coverage of Virtualization topics.
Objective 333.1: DRBD
Versions 8.4.x has been added. Version 8.3.x continues to be covered.
Objective 333.2: Global File System and OCFS2
The weighting of this objective has been reduced from 3 to 2 to allow for more coverage of Virtualization topics.
