Using OmegaT for Group Translations

Managing Translation Memories

We need to decide on how to share translations.

Possibilities:

• share them as project_save_name.tmx and share them (con: one person will have to do a final translation with everyone's translation memories)
• have a master and pass it around as a token (con: no parallel translations)
• other ideas? (let's keep it simple, though)

To be agreed. In terms of words, expression, verbal times, and so on. (Perhaps this can be removed later on, if there is nothing to agree on)

Note: By using OmegaT and sharing translation memories, technical terms should naturally stabilise (or cause a dialect war ;)).

Meanwhile, while the OmegaT/TM "standard" is happening, here is a jargon list:

Words expressions under discussion

Please indicate which version you use (es_ES, es_AR, es_CL, ...)

file - file system	archivo, fichero (es_ES). Nota, fichero tb. se entiende. Sistema de ficheros, sistema de archivos.
script	guión, aunque en España nadie lo utiliza
remove,delete	eliminar (es_MX), borrar, nunca remover... (esto en España lo llamamos Spanglish :-))
linker	enlazador, linker (es_ES)
library	biblioteca, librería (es_ES)
stdin	entrada estándar (es_ES), tb. se entiende stdin
stdout	salida estándar (es_ES), tb. se entiende stdout
stderr	error estándar (es_ES), tb. se entiende stderr
environment variable	Variable de entorno (es_ES), variable de ambiente (En España no se utiliza)
boot loader	gestor de arranque, (yo siempre he utilizado gestor de arranque)
image file	fichero de imagen, archivo de imagen. Yo personalmente utilizo sólo imagen (es_ES)
utility	utilidad, programa
/ root	directorio raíz, en el caso del usuario 'root' sería administrador (es_MX)
edit files	archivo, modificar ficheros|archivo
network locations	localizaciones de red, ubicaciones de red
PATH	camino (en España no se utiliza), ruta
hard link	enlace duro (en España no se utiliza)
symbolic link	enlace simbólico (en España sin embargo sí se utiliza... ¿?)
kernel	núcleo, aunque en España se utiliza de forma común kernel.
Window manager	Gestor de ventanas
X Display Manager	Gestor de Visualización X, aunque nadie lo utiliza, yo pondría X Display Manager
log	bitácora (es_MX), registro, aunque es muy común utilizar log
log priority	prioridad de registro, bitácora (es_MX)
log facility	canal/tipo de registro/bitácora (es_MX)
network address	dirección de red
interface	interfaz
connectionless	No orientado a conexión
scheduling system	sistema de planificación

Spanish conventions

This could go into policy. But I think this is just a discussion point.

• Usage of the first person, verbal time, ..., so that the exam looks consistent. See the different translations of could -> podría, podía, puede... Mi opinión es utilizar el presente siempre. Si utiliza, si hace, si borra, cuando crea, ...

• Uso de Usted. En España suena muy, muy raro, intentemos usar tercera persona, o impersonal. Usted borra-> Se borra.

• Uso de artículos determinados para los boot loaders, el arranque de lilo vs el arranque del lilo

• Uo de artículos determinados para la shell, la bash
